Bratwurst and Brussels Sprouts

You can serve these separately or together, and it goes well with sauerkraut on the side. This was a part of our  Old Time Oktoberfest mea l.
To prepare the Bratwurst:
1-2 lbs bratwurst in links (3-5 links)
16 oz stock, chicken (beef also acceptable)
1 onion, sliced
1 lbs mushrooms, crimini, monterrey, or similar, cleaned and halved
1 head of garlic, cloves separated and peeled
3 Tbs butter
Brown bratwurst on two sides in a pan or wide pot with 1 Tbs butter.
Deglaze with stock by turning the heat to high, adding stock, and scrape the pan with a spatula to bring up the brown bits from the bottom of the pan
Turn the heat back down a bit, then mince one clove of garlic and add to pan.
 Add mushrooms then onions.
Simmer about 30 minutes, until mushrooms and onions are tender and bratwurst is cooked through. Salt and pepper to taste.
To prepare the brussels sprouts:
1 lbs brussels sprouts
2 Tbs butter
1 clove of garlic, minced
Clean and cut sprouts in half. Add butter to pan. Melt butter in pan in medium-high heat.
Place sprouts cut side down and cook until browned. In the last few minutes, add the garlic.
Cook in batches if necessary to prevent overcrowding.
Set to low heat, turn to uncooked side, and cook until done as desired. Salt and pepper to taste.
Serve together with the bratwurst.
